Job Description

Position Overview

As a participant in the Belk Summer Internship Program, you will gain real world experience and exposure to various functional areas of corporate finance. The FP&A intern will work closely with finance professionals and senior management to analyze data, prepare reports, and support planning initiatives that drive business strategy. This internship provides hands-on experience in budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and financial modeling, in addition to exposure to senior leaders, professional development workshops, structured assignments, and social events over the 10-week summer term. Location: must be local to Charlotte, NC or within commutable distance. Summer interns are required to reside in Charlotte, NC for the duration of the internship term. The Financial Analyst role within this program will support the financial decision-making process across a variety of functions including retail industry dynamics, forecasting & budgeting, and financial operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze financial performance against budget, forecast, and prior periods; support variance analysis and explain key drivers of results.
  • Collaborate with the Finance team and senior leaders across business functions to develop, maintain, and enhance financial models, forecasts, and budgets.
  • Support the preparation of key deliverables including presentations, standard reports, and ad hoc requests.
  • Maintain a high-level awareness of relevant business conditions and trends to provide the best possible insights.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Operations, Accounting, etc.), implement reporting improvements through automation, and perform other ad hoc analysis as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Rising college senior planning to graduate in December 2026 or May 2027.
  • Majoring in Finance; a Corporate Finance emphasis or concentration is preferred.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring work authorization sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Proven strong academic performance with a GPA of 3.2 or higher preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple, conflicting priorities without sacrificing quality.
  • Adaptability to change and commitment to delivering high-quality work in a dynamic environment.
  • Self-motivated with a detail-oriented mindset and commitment to accuracy and data integrity.
  • Results driven, with high standards and a willingness to learn.
  • Highly analytical with strong problem solving and reasoning skills, including the ability to tackle complex or unprecedented challenges and propose effective solutions.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Understanding of financial modeling, forecasting, and planning techniques.
