Job Description

Position Overview

Recidiviz is hiring a Policy Data Analyst to join our fast-moving policy team. In this full‑time role, you will work with complex criminal justice data to drive meaningful policy reforms and data‑driven decision-making. Based in Remote, New York City, or Oakland, you’ll collaborate with diverse teams to explore datasets, translate policy concepts into quantitative insights, and help design evidence-based policies.Compensation:$97,000. Travel (approximately one week per quarter) may be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Explore complex criminal justice datasets to unearth actionable insights.
  • Contextualize and communicate key findings to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Data Science and Implementation Engineering teams to design targeted roadmaps.
  • Partner with Product Management and State Engagement teams to integrate data models into policy processes.
  • Assess policy priorities and details to develop responsive, analytical methods.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with a data-oriented mindset.
  • Enthusiasm for partnering with diverse professionals ranging from government staff to technical experts.
  • Sufficient math or statistical background to design analyses and interpret complex datasets.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ practical experience in exploring, analyzing, and processing complex datasets.
  • Professional experience using SQL to work with large datasets, including crafting efficient queries.
  • High familiarity with Python, particularly the Pandas package, for statistical analysis and data visualization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience adapting customized quantitative methods to introduce intuitive metrics in ambiguous contexts.
  • Experience working in a cross‑functional organization that designs, builds, and launches products.
  • Experience working with large public sector datasets, especially those related to criminal justice.
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform, BigQuery, Looker, Jupyter notebooks, and Python/Pandas.
