Position Overview
Toray Advanced Composites (TAC) is a leading supplier of advanced composite materials for the aerospace, sporting goods, motor sport, and industrial markets. Our thermoset composite products are on nearly every satellite, space launch vehicle, unmanned aircraft, military and commercial aircraft in production today. TAC also provides composite materials to industrial and recreational applications including mountain bikes, medical prosthetics, and sports equipment. Our thermoplastic prepregs, known in the industry as Cetex, are used in a wide range of commercial and military aircraft—from large wing structures to interior applications like seats and galleys.
SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS: The Process Engineer II will work independently, with minimal supervision, taking technical ownership of the production process. The engineer will be responsible for complete process control and technical oversight of a continuous production process to ensure maximum uptime, high efficiency, and excellent quality. Additional responsibilities include production support, new product development, and production integration. A primary objective is to maintain, improve, and contribute to the consistency of production processes through recommending and executing process control upgrades and equipment enhancements. Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for executing all process engineering activities across manufacturing, process control/optimization, scrap reduction, and leading engineering trials.
- Recognizes, troubleshoots, and provides root cause and corrective actions (RCCA) to issues associated with impregnation or batch mixing processes.
- Supports and provides feedback in establishing and measuring process performance standards related to quality, waste, and throughput.
- Contributes to operational reviews and initiatives focused on safety, process improvements, and cost reduction.
- Supports investigations and executes RCCA for operational non-conformances and customer-related issues.
- Plans and executes capital projects and process improvement activities with minimal direction.
- Participates in customer site audits, qualifications, and visits.
- Leads targeted projects to define and document product and processing parameters, drive cost reductions, and enhance manufacturing.
- Evaluates, troubleshoots, and resolves process problems on the production floor.
- Documents and creates manufacturing processes and methods per AS9100 (or equivalent) quality systems.
- Develops training materials, including manufacturing configurations, Bills of Materials, routers, work instructions, SPC/SQC, and control plans.
- Collaborates with Manufacturing, Maintenance, Process Technology, R&D, Quality Assurance, and Receiving/Shipping to achieve company objectives.
- Manages multiple projects and supports safety and environmental responsibilities related to manufacturing processes and equipment.
- Provides support to process engineering and operations department leads/managers and performs additional duties as assigned.
- Must be available and willing to work during off hours when needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in material science, engineering, chemical, mechanical or a related discipline.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of statistical analysis, process control, project management, RCCA, and FMEA.
- Possesses basic knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma principles.
- Understands root cause analysis, PFMEA, statistics, and SQC/SPC.
- Familiarity with business ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamic AX or similar).
- Must be able to communicate clearly, both written and verbally, in English.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and leadership.
- Maintains work areas in a neat, orderly, and safe manner.
- Adheres to safety procedures for PPE (personal protection equipment).
Preferred Qualifications
- Less than five years of experience working in composite materials or the aerospace manufacturing industry.
- Experience in mentorship, training, or supervision.
- Lean and Six Sigma training.
- Previous experience with composites or aerospace.
