Job Description
Position Overview
This full-time Medical Assistant position (Days, 40 hours/week, 8:00am–4:30pm) is based at 575 Riley Hospital Drive, Ste. 3300, Indianapolis, IN 46202. The role may require traveling to IU North. Under the supervision of the designated supervisor and assigned physician, the candidate will provide direct patient care including obtaining vitals, rooming patients, patient intake, phlebotomy, and more. Certification is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform direct patient care tasks such as obtaining vitals, rooming patients, patient intake, and phlebotomy.
- Conduct registration and scheduling activities in accordance with organizational procedures.
- Maintain EMR files and perform general lab work.
- Ensure that medical orders and referrals are carried out accurately and in a timely manner.
- Precept current MA team members or MA Externs as requested by leadership.
- Perform computerized physician order entry when directed by the assigned physician.
Required Qualifications
- AHA Basic Life Support certification for healthcare workers; additional advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty.
- High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from a Medical Assistant program.
- Current certification in medical assisting from one of the following: America Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA), or American Medical Certification Association (CMAC).
- Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA regulations.
- Understanding of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
- Ability to master standard clinical competencies per current clinical policies, Point of Care, and Skills Competency checklists.
- Basic math skills with accurate data collection and entry.
Preferred Qualifications
- TB validation (to administer or read) or validation obtained within 6 months of hire.
- Familiarity with Business Unit Quality Programs, Meaningful Use, and Standard Work Programs within 6 months of hire.
- Knowledge of standard laboratory procedures and insurance plans/third-party payers.
