Position Overview
As an Entry Level Design Engineer, you will be a part of a growing team that supports all aspects of the construction process by performing innovative design engineering through brainstorming conceptual designs, performing and/or reviewing structural calculations, developing plans, scheduling tasks to meet client needs, as well as mitigating risk to keep our construction crews safe.
Location: Ingleside, TX (Corpus Christi, TX area)
Kiewit Offshore Services, a district of Kiewit Corporation, builds structurally complex jackets and topsides for offshore oil drilling rigs. Located 20 minutes outside of Corpus Christi on a 550-acre fabrication yard, the team of 300 staff and 1400 craft employees work on projects requiring significant equipment planning, detailed cost estimates, and strict adherence to safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Performs basic calculations under the supervision of a more senior engineer and seeks out guidance when needed.
- Applies a solid foundation of engineering basics (statistics, trigonometry, algebra) and critical thinking skills.
- Expands knowledge through training and work experience.
- Learns and applies codes and standards to complete assignments.
- Utilizes structural engineering software in day-to-day activities.
- Performs non-routine technical assignments of limited scope related to lift plans, transport plans, loadouts, etc.
- Executes tasks according to company procedures, industry codes, and regulations.
- Works cooperatively with staff and craft of all disciplines to ensure designs are practical, efficient, and implementable.
- Performs lift analysis and collaborates with drafters to produce field drawings (including lifting points, rigging, cranes, sequencing).
- Participates in field operations and carries out inspections.
Required Qualifications
- 0-2 years' minimum relevant experience.
- Knowledgeable in engineering software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Finite Element Analysis tools, AutoCAD (or similar), MathCAD (or similar), Bentley SACS, or other structural analysis software.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% as required.
- Ability to receive direction from more experienced engineers and adjust to varying work demands.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to present ideas clearly in a professional manner.
- Proactive team participation, accepting direction while contributing individually to team success.
- Ability to develop cooperative working relationships and promote open communication within and across groups.
- Willingness to consult with senior team members to receive direction for internal customers.
- Capable of managing responsibilities and meeting deadlines under supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical disciplines preferred.
