Job Description
Position Overview
The Communications Technician I is a vital member of the technical team responsible for performing structured cabling installations in both commercial and industrial settings. This role involves installing outlets, running cable through various structures, and ensuring proper termination and documentation. Compensation: Min USD $18.00 – Max USD $23.00.

Key Responsibilities
- Install work area outlets for floors (e.g. monument), modular furniture (e.g. surface mount box) and walls (e.g. box eliminator).
- Drop cable down a wall using fish tape or other methods and route cable through modular furniture.
- Perform pre-termination procedures by organizing, forming, dressing, and labeling cables.
- Suspend and support cables using cable trays, J-hooks, D-rings, bridal rings, or trapeze systems.
- Build closets by mounting and installing backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optics, and hardware.
- Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cables as required.
- Perform fire-stopping procedures on fire walls, install sleeves, and pull cables through sleeves and core penetrations.
- Terminate low-voltage devices.
- Complete all IES COMMERCIAL paperwork (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers) accurately and on time.
- Adhere to and participate in all Company, customer, and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalency.
- Zero (0) to one (1) year of experience in telecommunications, structured cabling, or a related technical field.
- Ability to effectively read, interpret blueprints and project documents including specifications and quality requirements.
- Must be self-motivated, positive in approach, and professional.
- Proven problem solving and critical thinking skills with effective written and oral communication abilities.
- Ability to work in both outdoor and indoor construction environments, including working at heights, on ladders, in confined spaces, and lifting up to 50 pounds (moving up to 75 pounds).
- Familiarity with and ability to learn proper use of tools such as screwdrivers, drywall saws, torpedo levels, tape measures, snips, pliers, hammers, wrenches, cable strippers, flashlights, and gloves.
- Willingness to travel within branch and regional territories as needed.
