Job Description
Position Overview
Our Oil and Gas client in Houston has a DevOps contract position open in their Trading & Derivatives department. The contract is for 6 months with a Hybrid work arrangement in their Houston office. As a DevOps Engineer, you will be a hands-on engineer responsible for supporting global derivatives trading production environments, managing critical workflows, troubleshooting issues, and serving as a subject matter expert while collaborating closely with delivery and infrastructure teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure proactive management of critical end-to-end workflows, continuously improving stability and resilience through close collaboration with delivery and infrastructure teams.
- Assist with troubleshooting and issue resolution across development, support, and technical business users.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for trading systems initiatives.
- Support scalable algorithmic trading technology in a compliant and flexible manner.
- Experience with Algo regulation, audit, and compliance (RTS6) is highly desirable.
- Participate in the on-call rotation as part of a global team of development engineers.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience with real-time market data distribution platforms, individual feedhandlers, and enterprise-level real-time consolidated feeds.
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience with timeseries analytic frameworks including kdb, shakti, or similar technologies.
- Understanding of all major global futures exchanges and the full exchange-traded derivatives trade lifecycle.
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in commodity trading, capital markets, or investment banking, bringing a cost:value competitive mindset.
- Knowledge of market data providers (e.g., Bloomberg, Refinitiv) and liquidity aggregation platforms.
- 10+ years’ experience with front office application support, vendor management, and application deployment best practices.
- Proficiency in scripting and programming languages such as Python, PowerShell, C#, SQL, and related technologies.
- 8+ years’ solid experience in FIX engineering with proven exchange and vendor certification experience.
- Experience with third-party networks and EMS/OMS software vendors (e.g., TT, NYFIX, Bloomberg, TradingScreen), enhanced by messaging systems and debugging network protocols like TCP and multicast.
- 8+ years’ operational experience in supporting market data distribution platforms, including real-time distribution systems (RTDS) for DACS, ADH, and ADS components.
- Knowledge of multicast data traffic management, arbitration, and message queueing.
- 5+ years’ operational experience in supporting time series frameworks such as kdb or shakti.
- Excellent communication skills with traders, developers, and stakeholders.
- Ability to thrive under high-pressure situations and work under demanding deadlines in a trading environment.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and flexible with a positive attitude.
