Our client, a major player in the Oil & Gas sector operating near Miami, Florida, US, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Drilling Fluids Engineer. This critical role involves managing and optimizing drilling fluid systems to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective drilling operations. You will be responsible for designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting drilling fluid programs tailored to specific geological formations and drilling objectives. This includes understanding fluid properties, rheology, chemical additives, and their impact on drilling performance, wellbore stability, and formation damage.

Key responsibilities include conducting detailed fluid analysis, calculating required volumes, and managing inventory of drilling fluid components. You will work closely with drilling engineers, rig crews, and geologists to monitor drilling fluid performance in real-time, making necessary adjustments to maintain optimal parameters. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of various drilling fluid systems, including water-based, oil-based, and synthetic-based muds, and their applications in different drilling environments. Experience with solids control equipment and techniques is also essential. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and company policies regarding drilling fluid management and disposal.

This position requires a strong analytical mindset, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a challenging field environment. You must be adept at interpreting data, making quick decisions, and communicating technical information clearly to diverse teams. The ability to travel to remote rig sites and work extended hours as needed is a requirement of this role. Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage drilling fluid programs.
  • Conduct comprehensive analysis of drilling fluid properties and performance.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to drilling fluid systems.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards.

  • Recommend appropriate drilling fluid additives and chemical treatments.
  • Oversee solids control equipment and operations.
  • Maintain detailed records of fluid testing and operational parameters.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Petroleum, Mechanical) or a related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Drilling Fluids Engineer in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Proven expertise in drilling fluid chemistry, rheology, and fluid mechanics.
  • Experience with various drilling fluid systems (water-based, oil-based, synthetic-based).
  • Knowledge of solids control equipment and techniques.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and safety protocols.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in demanding field conditions and travel to rig sites.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., IADC WellSharp) are a plus.
