The Pt Safety Companion provides supportive patient care under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated health care professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides support to patients including care, comfort, personal care and hygiene, toileting, and mobility.
  • Creates a safe environment for patients.
  • Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes or concerns.
  • Provides high-level customer service to patients, their families, visitors, and staff.
  • Participates in hand-off/report of pertinent patient and departmental information upon arrival and departure.

Required Qualifications

  • BLS Basic Life Support certification – American Heart Association (preferred upon hire, must obtain from an approved source prior to direct patient care)
  • Recent experience in a healthcare environment, with a preference for the specific setting of application.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and follow directions as part of the healthcare team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of patient safety standards and infection prevention practices.
