Job Description

Position Overview

Component Design Level I in the Building Components - Truss and Wall Design/Estimation industry. This full-time, non-exempt position in the Design department reports to the Truss Design Manager & System Designer and involves designing and/or estimating roof/floor trusses, wall panels and material take-offs for Single Family, Multi-family, Commercial, Ag and Production Builder projects. The role is located in multiple areas including Aurora, CO; Grand Island, NE; and Kearney, NE. The work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8am to 5pm with potential overtime as needed. Compensation: Salary ranges from $20.00 to $28.00 per hour with a Supplemental Profit Sharing Program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create placement plans for walls and trusses, engineer truss profiles, perform estimating, scheduling, field repairs, design checking, and interact with customers, architects, and engineers.
  • Interpret contract documents to provide accurate estimates and component designs, including timely submittals.
  • Review cutting lists, production reports, and design schedules to ensure quality and timely design completion.
  • Provide engineered truss and/or wall drawings to customers as required.
  • Offer technical knowledge and support in designing trusses and wall panels to manufacturing and external customers.
  • Design roof and floor trusses and/or wall panels ensuring accuracy, optimization, and adherence to standards, including coordination for sealed engineering drawings or repair details when necessary.
  • Document all project communications and update scheduling software consistently.
  • Provide on-site job support in collaboration with the sales department when requested.
  • Conduct accurate material takeoffs using customer blueprints with zero shrink and generate pricing for estimating purposes.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (General Education Degree) is required
  • Solid building industry knowledge
  • Proficiency in Microsoft or Google Suite and design software such as Mitek Sapphire Suite, Structure, Management, Sapphire Engineering, and 20/20 Engineering
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, architectural and structural construction contracts
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, customer service skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills along with strong mathematical and analytical problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and work independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, construction, design, drafting or a related field
  • Wood Truss Counsel of America (WTCA) Certification
  • Prior experience in component design and/or estimation
