Position Overview
Last Mile Engineering at Amazon is seeking an innovative and solutions-oriented Mechanical Engineer / Industrial Designer to lead automation and material handling equipment (MHE) initiatives. You will drive the development of next-generation, world-class delivery station and logistics system designs while working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment alongside highly skilled professionals. This role offers high ownership and the opportunity to solve complex, high-impact challenges, including a travel requirement of up to 40% to collaborate with internal and external leaders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate design efforts for optimal Automation & Material Handling Equipment (MHE) solutions, including equipment specification, material flow, process design, site layout, and intellectual property considerations.
- Collaborate with internal teams, external vendors, and stakeholders to generate high-quality, cost-effective solutions.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with business partners, contractors, and vendors.
- Provide technical leadership for large-scale engineering projects, retrofits, and building designs.
- Conduct detailed design reviews, analyze CAD models, and visit vendor facilities and Amazon delivery stations to test equipment and drive continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of design, innovation, and research & development experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field (or foreign equivalent).
- Proven experience managing engineering design projects.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD 3D and proficiency with technical software such as MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive experience in a specialized role.
- Master's degree in Engineering, Operations, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Understanding of system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, statistical analysis, and reliability analysis.
- Experience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and high-speed manufacturing systems.
- Familiarity with automated control systems.
