This role supports the hospital’s mission through direct and indirect patient care in the emergency care setting under the supervision of a registered nurse. You will be responsible for communicating patient status, symptoms, and diagnostic test results accurately and promptly, ensuring timely responses to any changes in condition.

Key Responsibilities

General Duties:

  • Support your manager and administration in implementing the hospital’s mission, vision, and goals.
  • Participate as a team member by providing excellent customer service and suggesting operational improvements.
  • Assist in ensuring efficient and effective patient care through participation in orientation, meetings, and educational events.
  • Promote high standards by consistently exhibiting compassion, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Communicate timely and effectively using various mediums, including notes, emails, phone calls, and meetings.
  • Support performance improvement by collecting data, reporting incidents, and providing feedback to management.
  • Help meet departmental budget goals, identify equipment needs, and contribute to strategic planning.
  • Follow all departmental and hospital policies and seek clarification when needed.
  • Monitor equipment and supplies to ensure resources are used wisely and patient care tools remain available.
  • Manage your time effectively to adhere to schedules and complete assignments promptly.

Specific Duties:

  • Provide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, and consult RN, MD, or FNP as needed.
  • Monitor patient vital signs and demonstrate knowledge of cardiac monitoring, including identification of arrhythmias.
  • Maintain accurate and continuous nursing documentation.
  • Treat patients, visitors, and staff courteously and respectfully.
  • Prepare and review discharge instructions with patients and families.
  • Start IVs, hang, monitor, and discontinue IV fluids as ordered.
  • Ensure adequate stock of supplies and that equipment is functioning properly while keeping work areas clean.
  • Assist other departments with tasks as needed.
  • Support staff and physicians during procedures.
  • Stay within the appropriate scope of practice when administering medications per LPN Illinois Laws.

Required Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Maintain a current Licensed Practical Nurse license in Illinois.
  • Hold current certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and CPI (if not certified on hire, obtain ACLS, PALS, and CPI within 6 months).
  • Possess IV certification or receive on‐job training.
  • Participate in annual Infection Prevention education and adhere to proper isolation precautions and PPE usage.
  • Follow all Employee Health protocols (e.g., annual TB skin test, flu vaccine, employee physical).
  • Attend all mandatory in‐services, including departmental meetings.
  • Serve as a role model and support person for LPNs and CNAs.
  • Participate in monthly performance improvement initiatives.
  • Possess basic computer knowledge and effective communication skills in English (both written and verbal).
  • Pass pre‐employment and random drug screens.
  • Complete annual education and restraint training courses.

Professional Requirements:

  • Adhere to the dress code and maintain a neat and clean appearance.
  • Complete all annual education requirements and attend scheduled in‐services and staff meetings.
  • Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations as well as accrediting organization standards.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Report to work on time and complete assignments within designated timeframes.
  • Wear identification while on duty and accurately use the computerized punch system.
  • Represent the organization professionally and participate in continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Adhere to organizational policies on ethical business practices and effectively communicate the hospital’s mission and goals.
