Job Description

Position Overview

The Manager, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) focuses on the optimization of the University’s .EDU website, including analyzing current web page designs and code, and working with creative and development teams to implement recommended changes. The individual performs in-depth evaluation of variable factors to analyze complex issues and/or data and selects appropriate methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to obtain optimal results. The Manager, SEO works closely with teams within Marketing, web design, and development, as well as key stakeholders across the University to continually enhance the institution’s online presence. In this role, you will also lead, mentor, and manage a team of SEO professionals, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and fostering a collaborative, high-performing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Marketing team on content optimization and development of the entire .EDU site to improve traffic and conversion metrics; meet regularly with stakeholders and use tools like Adobe, Google Search Console, and other SEO tools.
  • Manage and define SEO and organic forecasts; monitor search engine KPIs, produce detailed reports, and present results, including ROI impacts, to marketing and senior leadership.
  • Use Jira to create and manage tasks with various teams and stakeholders; ensure projects are assigned, on-track, and review progress with the SEO team on a weekly basis.
  • Establish processes and procedures for the SEO team, document them for University-wide communication, and educate internal teams on the importance of SEO.
  • Manage vendor relationships for SEO-specific projects, holding regular meetings to review goals and progress.
  • Stay current with SEO industry changes and trends, ensuring compliance with the latest guidelines and algorithm updates, and communicate impacts to relevant teams.
  • Manage external link building for University web properties, working with vendors to identify targets and report progress to senior leadership.
  • Implement strategies to increase search engine traffic through techniques like title/meta tagging, indexing, link building, keyword ranking, and overall site architecture and content optimization.
  • Monitor and analyze site performance and brand reputation, reviewing tracking metrics to provide solutions for improving search engine ranking.
  • Research and evaluate new traffic trends and optimization opportunities; assess search outcomes and communicate strategies and results across the University.
  • Select, mentor, coach, and evaluate staff; set and monitor performance objectives, and conduct performance discussions including one-on-one meetings and quarterly check-ins.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Psychology, Business Analytics, Project Management, or a related field with six (6) years of experience in organic search engine optimization – including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or team leadership role, OR a High School diploma/GED with ten (10) years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep understanding of organic search, including crawling, indexing, ranking algorithms, and best practices.
  • Technical proficiency with HTML, JavaScript, XML, schema, and content management systems.
  • Experience with tools such as BrightEdge, Excel, PowerPoint, Miro, SQL, SAS, Adobe, Google Search Console, Power BI, and Jira.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, project management, and communication skills, with keen attention to detail.
  • Proven leadership abilities including conflict resolution, performance management, and team development.

Compensation

  • Pay Range: $76,400 (minimum) – $115,400 (midpoint) – $154,400 (maximum) per annum.
