Position Overview
Gabberts Interior Designer Career Path offers a progressive opportunity for designers to grow through distinct phases—from Design Assistant to a Hybrid Role, and ultimately to a full-time Interior Designer. Success in this role requires strong product knowledge, the ability to engage and sell, and resilience in managing clients’ personal design decisions. Key Responsibilities
- In Phase 1 (Design Assistant – First 6 Months): Support multiple Interior Designers by assisting with floor planning, creating proposals and pricing, performing basic AS400 functions, and learning vendor and product education.
- In Phase 2 (Hybrid Role – Design Assistant + Sales, 6–12 Months): Transition to a shared role with two days a week on the sales floor, engaging directly with clients to build sales skills and develop your personal clientele.
- In Phase 3 (Interior Designer – After 1 Year): Operate as a full-time designer managing projects from start to finish, fostering client relationships, and achieving significant sales targets.
- Compensation: Starts at $16-$18/hr with progression to 1% commission during the hybrid phase and ultimately 100% commission as a full-time designer.
- Commit to continuous learning and professional development to achieve established sales goals and career growth milestones.
Required Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in design preferred.
- Three to five years of administrative experience preferred.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; drafting and proofreading skills are a plus.
- Ability to sit for extended periods with occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Willingness to work flexible schedules, including one evening and one weekend day during the initial phase.
