Job Description
Position Overview
The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Health Information Administrator for the Chicago-Read Mental Health Center located in Chicago, Illinois. The incumbent will provide professional direction for the overall health information services program, including planning, organizing, and supervising the preparation and maintenance of medical, clinical, and statistical records and reports in compliance with state and federal laws and regulatory guidelines. This is a union position. Compensation: $5,148 - $7,227 per month ($61,776 - $86,724 per year).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall professional direction for the health information services program, including planning, organizing, and supervising the preparation and maintenance of records and reports.
- Monitor complex abstracting, analysis, and interpretation of health information data.
- Serve as a working supervisor and oversee daily admissions, discharges, transcription, coding services, and related operations.
- Maintain and update medical records forms and the facility's Forms Manual, including conducting surveys and inspections.
- Ensure prompt response to correspondence requests while upholding patient confidentiality and privacy standards.
- Provide support and communication to administration regarding the health information services program and serve on designated committees.
- Conduct in-service training for new or revised health information standards, HIPAA privacy revisions, or new HIM technology.
- Participate in all mandatory training sessions as scheduled by DHS and the Chicago-Read Mental Health Center.
- Perform other assigned duties reasonably within the scope of the position.
Required Qualifications
- Four years of college with certification by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) and one year of professional experience in a health information records facility.
- OR four years of high school with completion of an approved medical records training program, certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), and five years of progressively responsible experience in managing a medical records program.
