Our client is a renowned leader in the chemical industry, seeking a highly skilled Senior Chemical Process Engineer for their facility in Kansas City, Missouri, US. This critical role involves the design, development, optimization, and troubleshooting of chemical processes to ensure efficiency, safety, and environmental compliance. You will be instrumental in scaling up new processes from lab to commercial production and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate possesses a strong foundation in chemical engineering principles, extensive experience with process simulation and modeling software, and a proven ability to lead complex projects.

Your Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize chemical processes for safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop PFDs (Process Flow Diagrams) and P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams).
  • Conduct process simulations and modeling using software like Aspen Plus, HYSYS, or similar.
  • Lead the scale-up of new chemical processes from laboratory to pilot plant and commercial production.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues in existing chemical plants.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
  • Collaborate with R&D, engineering, and operations teams to implement process improvements.
  • Manage engineering projects, including scope definition, budgeting, scheduling, and execution.
  • Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) such as HAZOP studies.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, and documentation.
  • Evaluate and recommend new equipment and technologies.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree: in Chemical Engineering. A Master's degree is a plus.
  • Experience: 7+ years of progressive experience in chemical process engineering.
  • Proven experience: in process design, scale-up, and optimization.
  • Proficiency: with process simulation software (Aspen Plus, HYSYS, ChemCAD, etc.).
  • Strong understanding: of unit operations, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat/mass transfer.
  • Experience: with PFD/P&ID development and HAZOP studies.
  • Excellent problem-solving: and analytical skills.
  • Strong project management: abilities.
  • Effective communication: and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge: of relevant safety and environmental regulations.
  • Professional Engineer (PE): license is highly desirable.
