Job Description
Position Overview
As a Patient Registration Representative, you will ensure a positive patient experience during registration by employing excellent customer service and meticulous data entry. Every day you will identify patients, collect accurate demographics, verify insurance, determine and collect financial liability, and explain hospital policies and patient rights. You will also handle insurance verification, financial processing, and assist with patient billing concerns. This role is offered on a Part Time basis at Mercy Hospitals in Bakersfield—a trusted community partner of Dignity Health with more than 100 years of compassionate care.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure complete, accurate, and timely entry of patient demographic and registration data into the ADT system.
- Verify insurance benefits, collect financial liabilities, and document patient financial information following CMS, EMTALA, HIPAA, and ABN guidelines.
- Identify patients correctly, review pre-registered accounts, obtain required signatures, and ensure all applicable documents are scanned and provided.
- Handle specialized scenarios in emergency, maternity, rehabilitation, and other registration areas while adhering to regulatory compliance.
- Manage credit card transactions per PCI-DSS standards and respond to escalation of accounts as needed.
- Assist patients with payment plans and the Payment and Billing Assistance Program, ensuring clear documentation of financial conversations.
- Collaborate with physician offices and clinical areas to update stakeholders on changes in registration requirements and processes.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED upon hire.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a hospital Patient Registration department, physician office setting, healthcare insurance company, revenue cycle vendor, or similar revenue cycle role.
- Relevant education and/or training that can complement limited experience in requesting and processing financial payments.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in a hospital Patient Registration department, physician office setting, healthcare insurance company, revenue cycle vendor, or similar revenue cycle role.
