Position Overview
UTHealth Houston is Texas’ resource for healthcare education, innovation, scientific discovery, and excellence in patient care. We are hiring for an Assistant Patient Access Rep for our CV Surgery- SE Houston department. This role serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, ensuring that day-to-day operations run smoothly and that excellent customer service is provided. In this role, you will assist in ensuring medical necessity compliance, verifying eligibility, and posting payments.
Key Responsibilities
- Obtain demographic, insurance, and financial information from patients or their guarantors and enter details with a high degree of accuracy.
- Explain required forms to patients or guarantors and secure the necessary signatures.
- Ensure medical necessity compliance by gathering data, reviewing the compliance system, communicating with patients, and obtaining signatures as needed.
- Protect the facility’s financial integrity by collecting patient liability, establishing payment arrangements, discussing payment options, and screening for eligibility. Provide complex financial counseling including charity application submissions and identifying alternative financial resources.
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, ensuring that notifications and authorizations are completed within required timeframes.
- Post payments in the computer system and generate appropriate patient receipts.
- Communicate professionally with physicians, care management, ancillary departments, nursing units, office staff, insurance companies, and patients and their families while maintaining thorough documentation.
- Adhere to all university policies, procedures, and standards, including time and supply management as well as productivity and accuracy requirements.
- Promote personal professional growth by meeting mandatory/continuing education requirements, serving as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Ability to multi-task with proficient typing/keyboarding skills.
- Must meet physical requirements (exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly) and comply with security sensitive criteria.
- Must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
