Compensation: Starting Pay Rate Range $19.66 - $28.45 (Medical Assistant - SD: $19.66-$22.60; Licensed Practical Nurse - SD: $24.75-$28.45; Determined by the knowledge, skills, and experience of the applicant.)

In the ambulatory clinic environment, LPNs and Medical Assistants work together to provide both hands-on and indirect patient support while executing designated duties per Monument Health's guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures the examination and treatment spaces are set up according to clinic regulations.
  • Carries out patient rooming protocols, which include recording vital signs, gathering patient information, and completing other specified tasks within the defined scope of responsibilities.
  • Administers and records unit dose medications/immunizations precisely as per clinic protocol after training and demonstration of competency.
  • Conducts electrocardiograms and lab examinations as per the clinic's CLIA authorization, adhering to required training and proficiency evaluations.
  • Verifies that patient record documentation meets specified standards for accuracy, clarity, and brevity; may function as a scribe for healthcare providers following proper training.
  • Performs administrative tasks, including inventory maintenance and procurement as instructed.
  • Assists in coordinating and managing scheduling for follow-up medical appointments as prescribed or instructed.
  • Distributes pre-printed, approved patient educational materials and refers inquiries to the appropriate healthcare provider or registered nurse.
  • Completes all other tasks as outlined in the documented Monument Health Scope of Work and any additional assignments as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma/GED Equivalent; Graduate of an Accredited Medical Assistant University or accredited training facility.
  • Certification: Medical Assistant-Certified (MA) by an approved certifying body; Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Professional Certification (American Heart Association - AHA) to be obtained within 60 days of hire or transfer.
  • Medical Assistants hired between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2024 may be granted 6 months to obtain national certification.
  • Medical Assistants hired after July 1, 2024 must hold one of the following national certifications at the time of hire:
    • American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
    • American Medical Technologists (AMT)
    • National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
    • National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
    • American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
  • Note: The department may require BLS certification sooner than 60 days post hire/transfer; details will be discussed with the hiring manager if applicable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Completion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing.
  • Certification: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensure by the South Dakota Board of Nursing.
  • Experience: 1+ years of Clinical Experience and 1+ years of Healthcare Experience.
