Our client, a prominent leader in the aerospace and defense industry, is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their advanced engineering team in San Antonio, Texas, US. This role is critical for the design, development, and integration of complex mechanical systems for cutting-edge aerospace applications. You will utilize your expertise in CAD/CAE tools to create robust designs, perform thorough analysis, and support manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in mechanical design, a deep understanding of aerospace materials and standards, and a passion for innovation in a challenging, high-stakes environment.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of mechanical components, assemblies, and systems for aerospace platforms.
- Utilize advanced CAD software (e.g., CATIA V5, SolidWorks, PTC Creo) for 3D modeling, drafting, and creating detailed design documentation.
- Perform engineering analysis, including structural, thermal, vibration, and fatigue analysis, using FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, NASTRAN).
- Develop and execute verification and validation test plans for mechanical systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, systems engineering, and program management.
- Troubleshoot and resolve design issues, providing technical solutions to manufacturing and operational challenges.
- Ensure designs comply with stringent aerospace industry standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to proposal development and technical reviews.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership within the design team.
- Manage project tasks, timelines, and resources effectively to meet program objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree: Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in mechanical design, with a significant portion focused on the aerospace industry.
- Skills: Expert proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and detailed design documentation.
- FEA: Strong experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for stress, thermal, and vibration simulations.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of aerospace materials, manufacturing processes, and industry standards (e.g., MIL-SPECs, NASA standards).
- Familiarity: with system integration and testing in aerospace environments.
- Abilities: Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking abilities.
- Communication: Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with: GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).
- Security clearance: Ability to obtain a security clearance may be required.
Work Location
This position requires full-time on-site engagement at our San Antonio, Texas, US facility to foster close collaboration with engineering teams and access to specialized equipment.
