Job Summary

The Cabana Server role is responsible for food and beverage front of house daily operations such as serving food and beverages, including alcoholic beverages, to our cabana guests while ensuring a warm, welcoming, and exceptional experience. This role plays a key part in maintaining a clean, efficient and friendly service environment, and requires superior guest service skills, attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced setting.

Essential Job Functions

  • Serve food and beverages, including alcoholic beverages to cabana guests.
  • Greet guests warmly and promptly, take food and beverage orders and provide a positive and engaging experience.
  • Run food and beverages to cabana guests, maintain food and beverage quality and ensure proper serving standards.
  • Accurately serve guest checks, process payments and maintain card-handling accuracy and integrity.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the service units, its countertops, tables, cabanas and surrounding areas throughout the shift.
  • Stock and replenish inventory including food, beverages, disposables, stationary items, chemicals, etc.
  • Monitor guest consumption to ensure responsible alcohol service and adherence to Orange County and California regulations.
  • Complete closing duties, including cleaning, daily receipts, tip reporting and any checkout procedures.
  • Secure and verify all equipment including fridges, cabinets, cabana safes, furniture, equipment and storage areas.
  • Collaborate with team members to maintain workflow and deliver exceptional overall guest service.
  • Follow all California health, safety, sanitation, food handler and alcohol-service standards and requirements.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures in alignment with the Orange County Environmental Health standards.

Additional Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Attend team meetings and required training sessions.
  • Complete paperwork including tip reporting, temperature logs, cleaning tasks and daily checklists.
  • Operate certain equipment including POS systems, cabana safes, -40°F freezers and hot-holding warmers.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, leadership and management regarding guest needs and concerns.
  • Support other cabana servers including assisting other orders and covering server breaks.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory and reporting shortages or equipment needs.
  • Complete any Bartender job responsibilities, if necessary.
  • Support special events, promotions or themed service as scheduled.
  • Perform other duties or special projects assigned to support business needs.

Qualifications, Education, and Experience

  • Must be: 21 years of age or older.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification: Must have a valid and current Orange County, California Food Handler’s Certification.
  • Training: Must complete the California Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) training and have a valid and current Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) server ID number.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a guest-focused mindset.
  • Team-oriented with collaborative problem-solving skills and a positive, outgoing attitude.
  • Ability to handle guest and team member checks accurately and responsibly.

Desired Skills

  • Prior server or hospitality experience in a restaurant, hotel or retail environment is strongly preferred.
  • Prior completion of the California Food and Beverage Allergen training is preferred.

Cognitive and Physical Demands

  • Ability to read, understand and follow food and beverage orders, safety procedures and written instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and situational awareness, including monitoring guest behavior and alcohol consumption.
  • Effective memory recall for food and beverage orders, product knowledge and guest preferences.
  • Constant walking, reaching, bending and grasping.
  • Ability to remain both stationary and in constant motion for extended periods (walking for most of the shift).
  • Ability to lift, push, pull or carry up to 40 pounds (e.g., cases of beverages, boxes, ice buckets, small wares).
  • Ability to use hands and arms for repetitive motions, including dispensing, stirring, pouring and stocking.
  • Ability to work in hot or cold environments depending on assigned area (e.g., near warmers, freezers, coolers).

Working Conditions

  • Fast-paced hospitality and service environment with frequent interaction with guests, noise and shifting priorities.
  • Exposure to cleaning solutions, operational equipment, glassware and sharp tools (e.g. lighters, knives).
  • Exposure to alcoholic beverages and food allergens and requires strict adherence to health and safety regulations.
  • Schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays and extended hours depending on business needs.
  • Work environment may include indoor/outdoor service areas with variable temperatures (e.g. extreme heat).
