The Role

The firm is seeking a CMT / Geotechnical Engineer with a PE license to support and help lead construction materials testing and geotechnical services across a diverse portfolio of active projects. This role blends technical oversight, engineering judgment, and project execution, making it ideal for an engineer who enjoys being closely connected to construction while maintaining professional engineering responsibility. You will oversee CMT operations, provide geotechnical input where required, ensure compliance with project specifications, and serve as a technical resource for field and laboratory teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering oversight and PE-level review for CMT and geotechnical-related services
  • Review and approve CMT reports, test results, and compliance documentation
  • Ensure construction activities align with geotechnical recommendations and project specifications
  • Support geotechnical engineering tasks, including interpretation of subsurface data and construction observations
  • Coordinate with contractors, owners, inspectors, and project managers to resolve field and quality issues
  • Oversee and support field and laboratory staff, ensuring adherence to QA/QC standards
  • Assist with project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation
  • Participate in client communication and support business development efforts as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license: Texas preferred or ability to obtain
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree: in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering
  • Experience: in construction materials testing (CMT) and/or geotechnical engineering
  • Strong understanding: of ASTM, AASHTO, TxDOT, and local jurisdictional requirements
  • Proven ability: to manage multiple projects and priorities in an active construction environment
  • Strong communication: and leadership skills

Preferred Experience

  • Oversight of soils, concrete, asphalt, and structural materials testing
  • Construction observation and geotechnical-related field services
  • Experience supporting large commercial, industrial, transportation, or infrastructure projects
  • Prior involvement in staff supervision or operational leadership
