Position Overview
ACTIVE TS/SCI Clearance Required. Gray Tier Technologies is looking for a Data Scientist to support a contract providing integration, design, development, and sustainment for one of our Intelligence Community clients in Springfield, Virginia. The role supports the Chief Engineer in building data storage architecture, including schema, formatting, indexing, accessing, retrieving, and maintaining data integrity.
As a Junior Data Scientist, you will have a direct impact on a National Security mission, positioning NGA as the enterprise and community GEOINT data provider. You will work with talented developers and colleagues, gaining exposure to industry best practices such as AWS cloud solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Work as part of a team of data engineers, database developers, and visualization specialists to analyze large sets of structured data, identifying anomalies and undiscovered correlations.
- Perform deep dive analysis into data sets and reports to identify problems or suspected issues with data.
- Utilize strong knowledge in data management, transformation, visualization, analysis, and organization techniques.
- Manipulate data from multiple structured and unstructured sources.
- Apply analytical methodologies to diagnose data-related challenges, implement solutions, and evaluate performance.
- Conduct data analytics, data engineering, data mining, exploratory analysis, predictive analysis, and statistical analysis to produce graphical, written, and verbal narrative products.
- Categorize data and metadata to build the metadata application profile.
- Demonstrate experience as a data scientist using imagery data.
- Develop and use exceptionally complex concepts and processes that span multiple organizations and disciplines.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts to increase data quality and speed of delivery.
- Contribute on an Agile development team using Scrum techniques.
- Collaborate with the software engineering team to deploy models that provide ongoing forecasts, optimizations, recommendations, and insights to support the Chief Data Office.
Required Qualifications
- Experience writing code in Python, R, Scala, JavaScript, or C++ with reproducible documentation and strong knowledge of visual programming or object-oriented modeling workflows.
- Ability to manipulate data from multiple structured and unstructured sources.
- Proven expertise in applying analytical methodologies to diagnose data-related challenges, implement solutions, and evaluate performance.
- Demonstrated experience as a data scientist working with imagery data.
- Skilled in conducting data analytics, data engineering, data mining, exploratory analysis, predictive analysis, and statistical analysis, using scientific techniques to deliver actionable insights.
- Ability to evaluate a wide range of methods, models, and algorithms for mission-driven problems while recognizing their capabilities and limitations.
- Experience categorizing data and metadata to build comprehensive metadata application profiles.
- Experience with Apache Hadoop, HUE, Hive, Pig, Spark, Elasticsearch, Kibana, or Tableau.
- Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree plus 1-3 years of experience, or a Master’s Degree plus 1-3 years of experience.
- Minimum Years of Experience: 1-3 years relevant experience post-degree.
