We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Senior Medical Officer to lead our onboard health center operations while contributing to the well-being of our guests and crew. In this pivotal role, you will manage healthcare services on board, ensuring an efficient and compassionate approach to medical care.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive medical care including evaluation and treatment for inpatient, outpatient, and ICU cases.
  • Direct health center operations for optimal efficiency and care standards.
  • Coordinate shore referrals and medical disembarkations with shoreside Medical Services.
  • Communicate effectively with shoreside teams regarding guest medical issues.
  • Make informed decisions about patient disembarkations based on medical assessments.
  • Maintain strong communication with leaders across various departments on the ship.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness in all medical reports prior to submission.
  • Foster knowledge of ACEP Guidelines and safety protocols within the medical team.
  • Mentor and guide the medical staff to foster a culture of continual learning.
  • Supervise crew safety duties, including leading lifeboat drills.
  • Ensure proper management of hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulations.
  • Support the execution of crew immunization programs.
  • Oversee the management and inventory of pharmaceuticals onboard, including controlled substances.

Basic Qualifications

  • Active medical license: Recognized in an STCW country.
  • Medical degree: From an accredited institution in an STCW country.
  • Letter of good standing: Ability to provide a letter of good standing prior to employment.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of recent experience in general and emergency medicine, including trauma or critical care.
  • Certification: In Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).
  • Computer literacy: Demonstrated proficiency, particularly with MS Office.
  • Electronic health records: Experience with electronic health records is essential.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Leadership experience: One year of experience in a leadership position such as Head or Lead Physician.
  • Maritime medical practice: Three years of experience in maritime medical practice.
  • Sea care: Experience with sea care is advantageous.

  • Genuine interest: Have a genuine interest in a maritime career and the ability to live onboard a Disney Cruise Line vessel.
  • Safety roles: Be ready to undertake safety roles and emergency responsibilities as outlined in the ship Assembly Plan.
  • Safety management responsibilities: Adhere to safety management responsibilities in line with the Safety Management System.
  • Multicultural environment: Appreciate and respect working and living in a multicultural environment with established regulations.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Valid passport: Hold a valid passport and be prepared to obtain a C1/D Seaman's visa (Disney Cruise Line will assist).
  • Pre-employment evaluation: Undergo a pre-employment medical evaluation.
  • Criminal background check: Complete a criminal background check.
  • Work footwear: Provide approved work footwear.
