Job Description

Position Overview

We are currently seeking a Power Plant Engineer for our Baltimore, Maryland facility. In this role you will assist the Plant Management team with developing, planning, and executing power plant system and equipment repairs while driving the use of Reliability Engineering practices. High levels of performance and achievement in this role can lead to advancement into supervisory or management positions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in the continuous improvement of safety for routine, infrequent, and outage-related tasks in a VPP certified facility.
  • Monitor and perform periodic tests on plant operations to determine operating characteristics and efficiencies.
  • Assist in budget and outage planning, and perform outage-related functions including directing and tracking boiler tube wear rates using Ultra Sonic Testing profiling.
  • Complete and document thorough inspections of boiler and furnace gas path components during outages.
  • Manage plant budgeted projects from work scope development to commissioning and startup of new equipment or systems.
  • Create and revise preventive maintenance procedures as needed.
  • Participate in engineering plant modifications and improvements.
  • Analyze power plant operating data using PI Datalink and maintain plant data files, including machinery history.
  • Participate in special projects and establish or enforce standards for pollution control, quality control, testing, operating procedures, and equipment maintenance.
  • Assist with directing maintenance of plant buildings and coordinate requirements for new designs, surveys, and maintenance schedules.
  • Prepare bid sheets and contracts for mechanical contractors, construction, and facilities acquisition activities.
  • Test newly installed machines and equipment to ensure compliance with contract specifications.
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals as directed, and effectively present information to managers, clients, and the public.
  • Complete Corporate and Plant Training Programs within prescribed time frames.
  • Follow standard safety procedures, correct hazards, and enforce safety and environmental protocols.
  • Recognize, analyze, and implement solutions to engineering challenges.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear, Environmental, or Facilities Engineering preferred).
  • Possess mechanical skills sufficient to perform routine tasks such as accessing equipment, operating power tools, and performing minor repairs.
  • Proficiency with PI Datalink and experience in analyzing power plant operating data.
  • Excellent communication skills demonstrated through report writing and presentations.
  • U.S. Work Authorization: Must be currently authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of experience working in a power plant environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the operation and control of a steam generating power plant.
  • Reliability Engineering Certification is a plus.
