Job Description
Position Overview
GFT is seeking an Entry Level Geotechnical Engineer - Geotechnical Designer for our Geotechnical Dams & Hydraulics Team in Ohio. This hybrid role requires regular attendance at either our Columbus or Cleveland, OH office. Join us to contribute to innovative solutions for sustainable water management and infrastructure, ranging from dams and levees to advanced water and wastewater treatment. Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000 (dependent upon experience and geographic location). Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform geotechnical calculations and designs for projects including shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, settlement, tieback anchors, soil nails, slope stability, and seepage studies.
- Assist in the preparation of written reports, design and construction drawings, specifications, and geotechnical correspondence.
- Plan subsurface explorations and laboratory testing investigations.
- Execute subsurface investigations such as test boring inspections and site reconnaissance to collect essential data.
- Provide specialty geo-construction observation during project construction phases.
- Travel as needed to GFT offices, client sites, or project work locations, including overnight/out-of-town trips.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
- 0-4 years of geotechnical experience emphasizing subsurface exploration or design deliverables.
- EIT certification or the ability to obtain it within the first 6 months of hire.
- Proficiency with geotechnical software such as SLIDE, SLOPE/W, LPILE, APILE, GROUP, GRLWEAP, Settle3, and gINT.
- Demonstrated interest in geotechnical engineering through relevant coursework, work experience, or internships.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills along with analytical and report writing abilities.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting.
- Excellent field observation coupled with effective data collection and documentation skills.
- Capability to work outdoors in all seasons, including lifting up to 30 pounds and navigating steep slopes.
- Valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree with a Geotechnical focus is strongly preferred.
