Job Description

Position Overview

TheGraphic Design and Digital Media Specialistposition reports to the Chief Operations Executive. This role is responsible for designing and producing high quality, professional media (print and web) to enhance communications with the general public and potential supporters, and to support The Salvation Army’s mission of meeting human needs through effective communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and produce media across various platforms.
  • Research and make recommendations for outside printing jobs while managing the production schedule and quality control for both external and internal print jobs.
  • Maintain and operate within Graphic/Marketing budgets, including pricing and promotional discounts.
  • Develop overall layout and production design for advertisements, brochures, magazines, corporate reports, and other collateral materials.
  • Collaborate with key staff to develop communications and social media strategies.
  • Craft internal and external communications plans related to membership experience and center-wide priorities.
  • Assist with the planning, design, and execution of marketing plans to boost membership sales and revenue generation.
  • Manage graphic design for both internal and external marketing communications with staff and vendors.
  • Design website communications ensuring they are attractive, professional, integrated, and aligned with Salvation Army standards.
  • Create and modify promotional print media including newsletters.
  • Modify images for onsite media screens and various social media platforms.
  • Engage social media followers with weekly updates on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Blog, and Hootsuite.
  • Maintain website and other digital media platforms.
  • Research and develop graphics and typography for digital media use.
  • Catalogue and archive graphics and images.
  • Produce quarterly brochures and design layouts for various collateral products.
  • Adhere to Salvation Army graphic design standards as demonstrated in the Red Shield Toolkit.
  • Maintain equipment responsibly and recommend updates or replacements when necessary.
  • Assume Manager on Duty responsibilities when scheduled.
  • Perform other related duties as directed.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Degree required; Associate degree in graphic design preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of professional graphic design and production experience.
  • Ability to work well with people and exhibit a cooperative spirit.
  • Excellent computer skills with working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in graphic design software on a MAC computer, including Page Maker, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Acrobat, and Adobe Flash.
  • Knowledge of direct response mechanisms, digital campaigns, and media campaigns.
  • Familiarity with the latest trends, technologies, and methodologies in graphic and web design.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work various hours as needed.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to lift/carry up to 40 lbs.
