Position Overview

Summer 2026 Nurse Extern Program - Cardiac Tele Unit. Schedule: Full-time, Day Shift. This 10‑week Summer Nurse Externship program runs from Monday, June 1st – Friday, August 7th, 2026. In conjunction with University of Chicago Medicine’s mission to provide superior healthcare, the program is designed to offer exceptional professional development for students in their final year of an accredited BSN or direct-entry MSN program, with a focus on the Medical/Surgical & General Medicine departments. Candidates should note that interviews will be conducted virtually via Zoom beginning in mid‑January, and all required documents must be submitted prior to the scheduled interview.

• Students are matched with one clinical area for the duration of the program.

• Program designed to support transition into a Staff Nurse role upon graduation and licensure.
• Candidates must be available for three 12‑hour shifts per week, including some weekend shifts.

Required Qualifications

• Qualifications: BLS (CPR) certification.
• Qualifications: Two professional reference letters, with one from a nursing instructor.
• Qualifications: Copy of the most recent transcript.
• Qualifications: Minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Qualifications: Enrollment as a full‑time student in an accredited BSN or direct‑entry MSN program, entering the final year in Fall 2026.
• Qualifications: All required documents must be uploaded via the candidate document uploads before the interview.
