Job Description

Position Overview

Position: MEP- Mechanical Engineer (Mid-Level). Join us at Partner Engineering & Science, Inc. for a full‑time, mid‑senior level engineering role focused on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems for commercial/industrial projects. Partner is a full-service engineering, environmental, and energy consulting firm with a global presence. In this role you will perform assessments of MEP and Fire Life Safety systems, conduct building walkthroughs, and develop design solutions. Compensation: $80,000 to $110,000 based on skills, experience, licensure, certifications, and business needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform single‑site visit “walkthrough” surveys and observe tenant spaces, common areas, roofs, and major mechanical spaces.
  • Conduct visual observations of heating, cooling, and electrical equipment to assess quality, condition, maintenance level, and capacity.
  • Assess interior and exterior lighting, main switchboards, distribution panels, motor control centers, and other ancillary systems.
  • Evaluate plumbing systems including domestic supply, waste, vent piping, fixtures, water heating, and pumps.
  • Review fire protection and life safety systems including suppression, alarm, smoke evacuation, and notification equipment.
  • Document conditions, deficiencies, and deferred maintenance with photographs and narrative descriptions.
  • Collect key data from MEP equipment tags including model, serial, manufacture date, and capacity.
  • Review setpoints, schedules, and capabilities of existing building automation and HVAC control systems.
  • Photograph representative systems and physical deficiencies.
  • Interview property owners, management, facility engineers, service providers, and local officials to understand operations, repairs, and capital projects.
  • Review construction documents, as‑built drawings, system sequences, specifications, cost information, and maintenance/inspection reports.
  • Estimate costs to remedy building deficiencies.
  • Provide technical direction to Project Managers on MEP issues.
  • Communicate with clients and management to develop effective solutions for MEP concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements and advise on necessary actions.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service through timely responses and proactive solutions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s (BA/BS) or Master’s Degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience Required: 5+ years of commercial/industrial engineering consulting or design experience with solid knowledge of MEP and FLS systems.
  • Requirements: Excellent written and verbal communication, strong organizational and analytical skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to travel up to 40% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Qualifications: P.E. in mechanical engineering, CEM, CEA, CBCP, or CMVP preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in interviewing stakeholders, cost estimation, and producing high‑quality deliverables.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer software and hardware.
