Senior Civil Structural Engineer

The Position
The Civil, Structural & Architectural Mechanical Engineering Leader is responsible for leading design and execution for major capital projects ($10MM to $150MM) across industrial manufacturing operations. This role provides technical direction on site development and building construction, often in greenfield or brownfield contexts, and coordinates external engineering and construction teams through EPC and EPCM contracts. A key responsibility includes ensuring efficient, safe, and cost-effective project execution across domestic and international sites.
- Lead civil, structural, and architectural design efforts on capital projects, including site development and facility construction.
- Develop EPC packages for greenfield/brownfield projects, including office and plant buildings.
- Direct external engineering firms for smaller-scale design-bid-build projects.
- Provide technical validation and subject matter expertise to internal and external engineers.
- Optimize timelines and safety through pre-assembly, modular design, and alternative construction strategies.
- Drive constructability reviews and promote off-site construction where value is added.
- Prioritize capital cost reduction and critical path activities to maximize business value.
- Ensure adherence to engineering best practices, gated reviews, and specification governance.
- Support sourcing in evaluating and selecting EPC/EPCM suppliers.
- Track and report project performance against defined metrics.
- Participate in initiatives related to process safety, compliance, and strategic improvements.
- Guide and mentor internal engineering teams and stakeholders.
- Ensure all projects align with scope, cost, safety, and operational expectations.
Civil Structural Engineer Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent); advanced degree or MBA preferred.
- 10+ years of engineering experience with a focus on building and site development projects.
- Experience managing capital projects using gated design processes.
- Familiarity with EPC, EPCM, and Design-Build project execution strategies.
- Ability to travel 20–30% (domestic and international).
- Experience working on international projects and collaborating across global teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with AutoCAD and 3D modeling tools preferred.
- PMP certification and/or OSHA 10-hour certification a plus.
- Demonstrated leadership in matrix, union, and non-union environments.
- Lean Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt) certification preferred.
- Strong communication, presentation, and decision-making abilities.
