Job Summary

The Automation Maintenance Technician is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing automated machinery, electrical/mechanical equipment, and production systems to ensure optimal performance and adherence to quality and safety standards. This role supports continuous production by performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting system issues, and collaborating with senior technicians and engineers to enhance equipment reliability.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Inspect automated machinery, equipment, and systems to identify issues and ensure functionality.
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, and perform maintenance on various types of electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Prioritize and self‑schedule maintenance work around production activities.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair PLC controlled systems (Allen Bradley / Siemens preferred).
  • Support minor PLC logic modifications and continuous system improvements.
  • Ensure quality standards are always met.
  • Assist in the assembly, installation, and maintenance of automated systems according to specifications.
  • Collaborate with senior technicians and engineers to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and quality checks on automated systems to uphold standards.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Assist in planning and scheduling repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for equipment and supplies.
  • Adhere to cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices), safety standards and policies to maintain a safe working environment.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of automation systems, including process control, instrumentation, and servo‑driven systems with ladder logic.
  • Proficiency in calibrating, troubleshooting, and maintaining electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to prioritize and schedule maintenance tasks effectively around production activities.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with proficiency in using hand and power tools for maintenance and repairs.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities with keen attention to detail, especially in ensuring quality standards.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for reporting issues and collaborating with team members.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices) and safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Willingness to continuously learn and adapt to new technologies and processes in automation and mechanical systems.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Vocational/Trade training or an associate’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or a related field, is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment, with hands‑on experience in automation and mechanical systems required.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with:
    • PLC troubleshooting (programming preferred)
    • HMIs and industrial control networks
    • Motor controls (VFDs, drives, starters)
  • Experience with preventative maintenance programs and automation troubleshooting preferred.
