Job Description

Position Overview

Hutcherson Goldsmithing is a small, local fine jewelry studio specializing in custom jewelry that centers our clients’ stories. We primarily design and create custom engagement and wedding rings, as well as transform heirloom pieces into new designs that reflect the individuality of the wearer. We are seeking to add another designer to our small team to serve more clients with the full attentiveness, care, and craftsmanship they deserve.

Job Type: Full-time | Compensation: Starting pay $25-$30 DOE ($25.00 - $30.00 per hour) | Expected hours: 35–40 per week

Schedule: Tuesday-Friday 9:45AM-6:30PM, Saturday 9:45AM-5PM

Work Location: In person

Key Responsibilities

  • Custom Design & Fine Jewelry Sales
    • Meet with clients to understand their design needs, preferences, and budget.
    • Educate clients on materials and processes to inform design and purchase decisions.
    • Sketch custom jewelry concepts to communicate with clients and jewelers.
    • Source stones and materials as needed for each project.
    • Collaborate with in-house CAD designers and bench jewelers to ensure outcomes.
    • Provide regular updates to clients on progress and timelines.
    • Sales of made-in-house jewelry.
  • Jewelry Repair Intake
    • Receive and assess jewelry items brought in for repair.
    • Make recommendations as needed for further repairs or alterations.
    • Document repair needs clearly and thoroughly, including photos and written descriptions.
    • Communicate repair expectations and timelines to clients.
    • Coordinate with the bench jeweler to ensure timely and quality repairs.
  • Administrative
    • Maintain organized records of custom jobs, repair intakes, and design drafts.
    • Answer phone and email inquiries.
    • Help maintain the showroom's cleanliness and organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Fine jewelry design experience is required
  • Ability to sketch, or learn to sketch jewelry designs during client meetings

Preferred Qualifications

  • Jewelry fabrication experience is a plus
