Position Summary
The University at Buffalo seeks to hire a highly skilled Senior Graphic Designer to join the Marketing and Communications department within Enrollment Management. This hands-on creative leader will be responsible for developing visually compelling print and digital design pieces that support UB’s admissions, recruitment, enrollment, and retention efforts. The ideal candidate is both a strategic thinker and a hands-on designer, with the ability to craft innovative, high-quality visual solutions across various mediums. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the incumbent will craft the visual expression of the UB brand primarily for prospective domestic and international students and their parents. They are highly motivated, creative, well-versed in digital technologies, and comfortable leading strategic direction and providing creative guidance on highly visible projects that directly impact student engagement, perception, and enrollment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, edit and deploy branded content across a wide variety of channels such as web, social, email, print, video displays and presentations as well as creative for paid media campaigns and merchandise.
- Ensure all designs are aligned with UB’s brand and accessibility guidelines, reflecting the university’s values and messaging to prospective students and parents.
- Collaborate with campus partners to create cohesive and impactful visual campaigns.
- Develop creative briefs, identify project scope and develop creative strategies to meet organizational objectives.
- Manage the entire design process from concept through execution, including layout, typography, imagery and color management.
- Stay updated on the latest design trends, tools and technologies to keep UB’s marketing materials fresh and engaging.
- Oversee external vendors for printing and other production needs, ensuring top-quality outputs.
- Provide art direction for photo shoots and multimedia projects as needed.
- Maintain digital and traditional asset libraries.
- Collaborate with designers, freelancers and communications staff in other UB units, ensuring all creative work meets UB brand and accessibility standards and students have a positive, integrated visual experience.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual arts or a related field with three years of full-time work experience in graphic design, with a strong portfolio showcasing both print and digital work. An equivalent combination of education and professional experience will be considered.
- Advanced skills in standard graphics applications including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator are required.
- Strong understanding of visual hierarchy, typography, color theory and layout design.
- Experience with both large-scale print production and digital marketing design.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills (oral and written) with a highly developed degree of tact and diplomacy exhibiting understanding, appreciation, and respect for all individuals in a diverse environment.
- Strong working knowledge of MS office applications required including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in higher education.
- Prior experience working in a creative role for recruitment/marketing campaigns.
- Experience with web design tools (e.g., HTML, CSS) and digital media formats.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong writing skills with proficiency in AP style.
- Experience designing for an international audience through international media.
Physical Demands
Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000
