This role is based in Washington, D.C., US, and offers a hybrid work arrangement, combining essential on-site laboratory and plant operations with flexible remote work for analysis and reporting. The ideal candidate will possess a deep expertise in chemical process design, optimization, scale-up, and troubleshooting. You will lead the development and implementation of advanced chemical processes, ensuring efficiency, safety, and environmental compliance. Responsibilities include process simulation, design of experiments, equipment specification, and directing process improvement initiatives. You will also mentor junior engineers, collaborate with cross-functional teams (including R&D, operations, and safety), and contribute to the strategic direction of chemical process development within the company. A strong understanding of chemical reaction engineering, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics is essential. We are looking for a visionary leader who can drive innovation and ensure the highest standards of operational excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, and optimization of chemical processes.
  • Conduct process simulations and modeling to evaluate performance and identify improvements.
  • Specify and oversee the selection and installation of chemical processing equipment.
  • Develop and execute Design of Experiments (DOE) to optimize process parameters.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex process-related issues in pilot and full-scale operations.
  • Ensure processes comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • Mentor and guide junior chemical engineers.
  • Collaborate with R&D, production, and safety teams to ensure seamless integration of new processes.
  • Develop and manage project timelines and budgets for process development initiatives.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in chemical engineering.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in chemical process engineering, with a strong focus on process development and scale-up.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing engineering projects or teams.
  • Expertise in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and statistical analysis tools.
  • Strong understanding of chemical reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and transport phenomena.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Effective communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with safety and environmental regulations relevant to the chemical industry.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, balancing remote and on-site responsibilities.
