Position Overview

Job Title: Analyst – Domestic Scouting
Reports to: Assistant Director, Draft Operations
Location: Oriole Park at Camden Yards – Baltimore, MD

This individual will support the domestic scouting department in preparing for the First Year Player draft by conducting extensive evaluations of amateur players using a blend of video analysis, performance data, and scouting reports. This role bridges traditional scouting with modern evaluation methods, ensuring the department leverages every available tool to identify and project talent. This is a full-time position based out of Baltimore, Maryland.

Compensation: $45,000 - $60,000 annually depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed evaluations of amateur players through video, data, and in-person scouting reports.
  • Collaborate with scouts and front office staff to grow the department's knowledge & cohesiveness.
  • Stress-test internal player models and provide feedback to refine department evaluation methods.
  • Track player development trajectories from high school through college for context in draft decisions.
  • Assist with database management, player mapping, troubleshooting, technical issues and other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of the amateur baseball landscape.
  • Experience working with baseball systems and player data.
  • Demonstrated ability to write thorough, clear, and insightful scouting reports.
  • Ability to synthesize diverse inputs into clear player evaluations.
  • Curiosity and open-mindedness to challenge consensus and provide independent, well-supported opinions.
  • Strong social and communication skills to connect with office staff, scouts, players, and others within the baseball landscape.
  • Partner with Systems and Analytics teams to develop and refine scouting tools.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, SQL & R preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
