The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry (ADCRR) is committed to delivering excellence in correctional health services. As the Assistant Medical Director (Physician), you will provide clinical leadership, oversee quality improvement initiatives, and coordinate healthcare services within a correctional setting. Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and recommend methods to improve operational efficiency and cost effectiveness of health-related services.
- Collaborate with healthcare contractors and administrators to ensure strong working relationships between facilities and external entities.
- Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings to discuss inmate cases, share insights, and coordinate care.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives and research projects aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery within correctional facilities.
- Educate and counsel Contracted Healthcare Provider (CHP) staff on health promotion, disease prevention, and chronic condition management.
- Lead interdisciplinary teams in developing and implementing individualized care plans for inmates with complex medical needs.
- Conduct comprehensive medical chart reviews and provide feedback on quality of care.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of clinical assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes in compliance with departmental policies.
- Coordinate continuity of care by collaborating with contractors, external healthcare providers, and community resources for inmates transitioning to community settings.
- Draft policies, protocols, reports, and benchmarks to enhance quality assurance and timely access to care.
- Provide recommendations on updating clinical practice guidelines, policies, and procedures as directed by senior medical leadership.
- Attend seminars, workshops, and conferences as required.
- Provide health counseling and education both on an individual and group basis.
- Deliver training and education to ADCRR and CHP staff.
- Fulfill responsibilities involving state business travel as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned related to the position.
Required Qualifications
- Valid, unrestricted Arizona Medical license.
- Demonstrated experience in clinical leadership, quality improvement, and healthcare service coordination in complex environments.
- Proficiency in comprehensive clinical assessments, diagnostic testing, and developing individualized care plans.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to lead interdisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to maintaining up-to-date documentation and compliance with departmental policies and state regulations.
- Successful completion of a background investigation and participation in mandatory pre-employment requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school.
- Board certification or eligibility in a primary care specialty such as internal medicine, family medicine, or emergency medicine.
- Prior work experience in a correctional health setting.
