Position Overview

Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE) is seeking an entry-level Associate to join our Washington, D.C. office. With a degree in architectural, civil, or structural engineering or building science, you will be part of a global firm of engineers, architects, and materials scientists. At WJE, you will work on a variety of significant, challenging, and innovative projects in the built environment while collaborating in a team-oriented atmosphere that values open communication, continuous learning, and hands-on mentoring.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on forensic investigations, condition assessments, and construction observations of building enclosure and materials related issues, including documenting distress and collecting test samples.
  • Conduct field testing and gather data using digital instrumentation and imaging tools.
  • Analyze data and research modern and historic construction documents, governing codes, and design guidelines to facilitate analysis, problem-solving, and repair design.
  • Complete analysis using advanced software and engineering calculations.
  • Assist with drafting and preparation of conceptual, preliminary, and final client deliverables, including construction drawings, specifications, reports, and presentations.
  • Interface with project teams, clients, contractors, and other architectural and engineering disciplines.
  • Assume responsibility for key project aspects and complete assignments with limited oversight under the guidance of licensed professionals.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in civil, structural, or architectural engineering (Master's degree preferred), from an ABET accredited program.
  • Solid foundation in architectural and/or structural engineering principles with a demonstrated interest in the investigation, rehabilitation, construction, and design of various modern and historic structures.
  • Relevant internship and/or research experience.
  • Effective technical, graphical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive team player willing to take on various responsibilities and work independently.
  • Strong ability to prioritize tasks, adapt to changing demands, and maintain high standards of excellence, integrity, and attention to detail.

  • Base Salary: A good faith estimate of the annual starting base salary (gross) is in the range of $79,280.00 - $118,920.00, determined based on your qualifications, skills, and experience.
