Job Description
Position Overview
We are seeking a Natural Gas Engineer to join our ICE Team in our Michigan offices to enhance infrastructure and support growing projects. The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (or related field) and has 7-15+ years of relevant experience. Self-motivated with excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills, you will work both independently and collaboratively—with opportunities to grow into a Project Manager role. A flexible hybrid-remote work schedule is available after 30 days of employment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design detailed gas distribution systems
- Design medium, standard, high pressure steel and plastic gas mains and services
- Create vertical and horizontal alignments
- Design regulator stations/districts
- Complete applicable design calculations
- Prepare installation drawings and specifications/notes
- Coordinate preparation of specifications and permit submittals
- Prepare preliminary project cost estimates and evaluate quantities
- Assist with/review scope, budget, and schedule of new project tasks and monitor task progress
- Work with and mentor junior design team members
- Document design changes and communications
- Conduct on-site inspections as needed
- Prepare project status and other reports
- Assist in the preparation of proposals
- Attend various client, public and internal meetings
- Participate in seminars and training classes
- Maintain excellent client relations and a safe working environment
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (or related field)
- 7-15+ years of experience in natural gas distribution systems/design, infrastructure, and regulatory requirements
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD
- Excellent communication, organizational, and writing skills
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment; some travel (<10%) required
Preferred Qualifications
- Michigan natural gas utility experience
- Experience in compression station design
- Knowledge of Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) modeling
- Experience with Microstation and GIS
- Professional Engineer License
