Job Description
Position Overview
This position involves lead‐level and advanced skilled work in enforcing environmental and water pollution control laws mandated by state and federal agencies – including the EPA and Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. The role focuses on activities within the Stormwater, Backflow Prevention, and Pretreatment sections by performing inspections, monitoring, sampling, and public education while implementing programs and policies to ensure environmental compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Enforce environmental and water pollution control laws and regulations.
- Conduct inspections, monitoring, sampling, and information collection.
- Implement and support compliance programs and policies related to Stormwater, Backflow Prevention, and Pretreatment.
- Provide public education on environmental requirements and pollution prevention.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field. (Promotional candidates may qualify with either a Bachelor's Degree plus two years of experience as an Environmental Enforcement Technician II or an Associate’s Degree with three years of similar experience.)
- At least five (5) years of full‑time experience in water treatment, wastewater treatment, or environmental compliance inspection for original entrance candidates, or the equivalent experience as described for promotional candidates.
- Current Class Two (II) Wastewater Collection or Water Distribution Certification issued by the Louisiana Department of Health.
- Current Class Two (II) Wastewater Treatment or Water Treatment Certification issued by the Louisiana Department of Health. Promotional candidates must also hold Water Supply Specialists and Backflow Assembly Tester Certifications.
