Our client is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Senior Process Safety Engineer to join their team in Huntsville, Alabama. This role is pivotal in ensuring the safe design, operation, and maintenance of chemical processes, protecting personnel, the environment, and company assets. You will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive process safety management (PSM) programs, conducting process hazard analyses (PHAs) such as HAZOP and LOPA studies, and ensuring compliance with relevant industry regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA 29 CFR).

Key Responsibilities

  • Performing risk assessments.
  • Identifying potential safety hazards.
  • Recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Tracking the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Playing a key role in incident investigations.
  • Conducting root cause analyses.
  • Developing lessons learned to prevent future occurrences.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of chemical engineering principles, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and reaction kinetics, as applied to process safety. Experience with safety instrumented systems (SIS), relief device design and sizing, and hazardous area classification is essential. You will collaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to foster a strong safety culture and integrate safety considerations into all project phases.

Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline is required.

Experience: A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in process safety engineering, preferably within the chemical, petrochemical, or manufacturing industries.

Certifications: Certification such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CCPSC (Certified Chemical Process Safety Professional) is highly desirable.
