Job Description

Position Overview

Atlantic Design, Inc is an established leader in the design of custom equipment for the blasting and coating industry. We are currently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. The Engineer will assist with the design and development of mechanical systems, components, and assemblies from design concepts through production to ensure an efficient, timely, and successful delivery to our customers.

This is a full-time position with benefits and possibilities for advancement. Compensation: The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $120,000, depending upon experience and training needed.

Very limited remote work is available. Candidates must be able to commute to our office daily, which is essential for working with our production team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute Engineering Design Projects: Create initial design concepts, develop them into fully functional products, and deliver complete design packages with detailed 3D models and 2D drawings for manufacturing and assembly.
  • Analyze Customer Specifications: Collaborate with Sales and Operations to review proposals and develop clear design requirements.
  • Project Management: Develop and manage project plans, schedules, and milestones while coordinating with engineering, production, purchasing, and other departments.
  • Maintain Bills of Material (BOM): Create and manage accurate BOMs in ERP/MRP software to support product lifecycle management and production planning.
  • Source Components and Materials: Identify and source required components, providing accurate information to the purchasing department for timely procurement.
  • Customer Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact to set expectations, address concerns, and provide progress updates throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure Compliance and Quality: Guarantee all designs meet relevant regulations, industry standards, and internal quality requirements.
  • Perform Additional Duties: Adapt to additional responsibilities as needed to support the engineering team and company goals.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering design experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Proficient with SolidWorks or similar CAD design software for creating 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings per ASME Y14.5.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, welding, and sheet-metal forming.
  • Experience with MRP/ERP systems integrated with PLM/PDM for BOM management and production planning.
  • Strong analytical skills for engineering calculations, FEA, CFD analysis, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and proven experience in executing engineering design projects within budget and deadline.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical information to a diverse audience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Ability to inspect equipment on the production floor and assist shop mechanics with troubleshooting design issues.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed, with remote overtime capabilities provided.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Design experience in industrial equipment or related fields.
  • Prior experience in equipment sizing for electric motors, blowers, and fans in vacuum systems.
  • Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic system design and schematics.
  • Familiarity with lean optimization, FEMA, and DFMA for production and process optimization.
