Job Description

Position Overview

UMass Memorial Health seeks a Medical Assistant for the Neurosurgery Clinic. In this role, you will perform vital clinical functions including escorting patients to examination rooms, taking vital signs, and assisting with clinical tests and procedures. This is a full‐time, NonExempt position scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. with 40 hours per week. Located at the Neurosurgery Clinic, you will play an integral part in delivering exceptional patient care. Signing Bonus may be available – eligibility will be confirmed during the interview process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to examination rooms; record vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, height, and weight while documenting patient history and progress in accordance with standard procedures.
  • Perform EKGs, phlebotomy, and Point of Care (POC) tests following clinic/office standards.
  • Prepare, document, and administer non-intravenous injections as directed or required within the scope of practice.
  • Assist with routine physical examinations or clinical procedures.
  • Review laboratory results and promptly alert physicians or relevant staff of any abnormal findings.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Heart Saver (HS) certification from the American Heart Association. If not held at the time of hire, certification must be obtained within 3 months of hire.
  • Medical Assistant credential approved by the Massachusetts Department of Health (e.g., ARMA, NHA, etc.), to be obtained within 1 year from the date of hire or transfer.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates proficiency in the areas of responsibility may be considered in lieu of the above certification, licensure, or registration requirements.
