Pharmaceutical Technician

We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Pharmaceutical Technician to join our team. As a Pharmaceutical Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting pharmacists and other healthcare professionals in the preparation, dispensing, and distribution of medications to patients. Responsibilities:

  • Medication Preparation: Assist pharmacists in preparing prescription medications, compounding sterile and non-sterile products, and packaging medications according to established protocols and standards. Ensure accuracy and precision in medication preparation processes.
  • Medication Dispensing: Fill and label prescription orders accurately and efficiently, following prescription guidelines, dosage instructions, and safety precautions. Verify medication orders for completeness and correctness before dispensing to patients.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain inventory of pharmaceutical supplies, including medications, compounding ingredients, and packaging materials. Monitor stock levels, place orders for replenishment, and rotate stock to ensure freshness and availability of medications.
  • Quality Assurance: Perform quality control checks on medications, equipment, and compounding processes to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, and safety protocols. Document quality assurance activities and report any deviations or discrepancies to the pharmacist.
  • Patient Education: Provide basic medication counseling and education to patients on proper medication use, storage, and administration techniques. Answer patient questions and address concerns under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of medication dispensing activities, inventory transactions, and patient information in pharmacy management systems or electronic health records (EHR). Ensure confidentiality and security of patient health information.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations governing pharmacy practice, including laws related to medication handling, storage, and distribution. Stay updated on changes in regulations and implement necessary adjustments to maintain compliance.

Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a pharmacy technician training program or certification as a pharmacy technician preferred.
  • Certification: Current certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) or eligibility for certification within month of hire required.
  • Experience: Previous experience working in a pharmacy or healthcare setting preferred but not required. Familiarity with pharmacy operations, medication terminology, and drug classification systems.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using pharmacy software systems, computer applications, and basic office equipment. Ability to perform mathematical calculations and measurements accurately.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to interact professionally with patients, healthcare providers, and team members in a courteous and respectful manner.
