Position Overview
UTHealth Houston’s expanding pediatric clinic in Katy is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to join our clinical team. Based at the UT Physicians Pediatrics Multispecialty Clinic Katy (23920 Katy Freeway, Katy, TX 77494), this full‐time, Monday–Friday position supports safe, effective, and patient‐centered care in a thriving community.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote quality patient care and customer satisfaction.
- Participate in planning and preparing for patient visits, ensuring schedules, test results, and clinic requirements are met.
- Room patients while documenting chief complaints, vital signs, medication lists, allergies, and other required information.
- Perform competency-validated procedures such as hearing/vision tests, EKG, spirometry, point-of-care testing, specimen collection, and equipment cleaning/reprocessing.
- Prepare and stock rooms, maintain clinic supplies, and ensure cleanliness between patients.
- Assist with routine and specialty procedures as required.
- Schedule follow-up appointments or referrals and complete routine clerical duties (photocopying, scanning, faxing).
- Handle telephone messaging and in-person screening with timely follow-up.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations.
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality according to HIPAA guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, plus completion of an approved Medical Assistant training program or one year of related experience with certification as a substitute.
- Minimum of one year of related experience.
- Certifications: Must hold Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA) and one of the following: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA).
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly as required.
- Adherence to HIPAA guidelines and maintenance of patient confidentiality.
