Job Description
Position Overview
Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering (BAE) at OSU-Stillwater is seeking an Instrument Shop Technician for their Research Laboratory. In this role, you will support faculty, staff, and students with research and development projects, as well as assist mechanical shops with fabrication and repair projects that uphold the mission of the university.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm with occasional evenings and weekends.
Appointment Length: Regular, Continuous/Until Further Notice.
Hourly Compensation: $22.50 - $28.50.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform mill/lathe machine work, welding, and sheet fabrication on materials including steel, stainless steel, brass, and aluminum.
- Fabricate prototypes using wood, plastic, 3D printing techniques, and integrate electronic/pneumatic components.
- Operate metalworking machines and tools to create new machine components and repair defective parts.
- Support operations, maintenance, and building renovations including light carpentry, painting, electrical, and plumbing tasks.
- Maintain a high standard of safety and ensure the proper use of personal protective equipment.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED (degree must be conferred on or before the agreed start date).
- At least 5 years of machine shop experience in machining and/or fabricating machine components.
- Valid driver's license.
- Proficiency in machine tool operation, including milling machine and lathe setup, as well as effective communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational/Technical training in Machining, Welding, Metal Fabrication, or a related field.
- Experience with forklift operation, proficiency in CAD, and customer relations.
- Possession of a Class A CDL.
