Entry Level Deputy

Position Overview

The Entry Level Deputy position is open to all external candidates who are currently enrolled and active in a Basic Peace Officer Course (BPOC) program at a licensed outside academy, hold an active Texas Peace Officer License in good standing, or are eligible for commissioning upon completion of BPOC. Candidates who meet all requirements and successfully complete all steps of the pre-employment process will be placed on an eligible list. It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure all their TCOLE Training Mandates are up to date.

Key Responsibilities

• Submit a complete job application that thoroughly documents education, experience, and veteran status.
• Complete required testing including a physical agility test (mile run, sit-ups, push-ups) and firearm qualification.
• Undergo a comprehensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination, completion of an online Personal History Questionnaire, and document verification.
• Complete pre-employment drug screening as well as physical and psychological evaluations as mandated by TCOLE.
• Comply with training requirements, including firearms proficiency evaluation and any additional training if needed.

Required Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled and active in a Basic Peace Officer Course (BPOC) program at a licensed outside academy.
• Must hold an active Texas Peace Officer License in good standing or be eligible for commissioning upon completion of BPOC.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License and auto liability insurance are required.
• Must successfully complete pre-employment PAT and firearm testing.
• Must successfully complete a full law enforcement background investigation.
• Must pass physical and psychological evaluations as required by TCOLE.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
• Eyesight must be correctable to 20/20 vision with standard color, peripheral vision, and normal auditory range in both ears.
• Employment is contingent on successfully passing the Entry Level Deputy training.
• Candidates who previously failed the psychological evaluation must wait 1 year from the evaluation date before reapplying.

• Education: Bachelor's Degree or higher formal education
• Experience Required: Military Experience
