GENERAL SUMMARY: Plans, organizes, controls, and supervises activities in the hospital outpatient pharmacy according to hospital policies, professional standards, and State and Federal laws. Recommends innovations in pharmacy practice to the Outpatient Pharmacy Manager while upholding our mission, values, and behaviors.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure safe, appropriate, and cost-effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Maintain strict control and accountability for medications dispensed to patients.
- Enforce compliance with health system policies and all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
- Continuously evaluate the quality of services and products provided to the department’s customers.
- Serve as a positive role model by displaying cooperative and professional behavior in interactions with others.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge:
- B.S. or PharmD from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a current pharmacist license in good standing with the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy.
- Completion of a 1-year pharmacy practice residency, specialty residency, or fellowship, or at least 3 years of pharmacy experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience with computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and pharmacy information systems.
- Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing pharmacy services.
- Proficiency in the use and application of new medications and technology.
- Leadership, administrative, human resource, and managerial skills.
- Ability to effectively participate on interdisciplinary teams and committees.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Understanding of pathophysiology, diagnostic criteria interpretation, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacotherapeutics.
- Excellent problem-solving ability and analytical thinking.
- Abilities:
- Ability to perform repetitive hand and finger movements (e.g., computer keyboard use) and lift/carry light loads (up to 40 lbs.), including stooping, kneeling, or reaching.
- Stamina for sitting, walking, or standing for long periods (4-8 hours) and operating necessary equipment.
- Must be vaccinated for COVID-19 as a condition of employment (accommodation available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs).
