Position Overview
Following ANSI/AMMI guidelines, the candidate ensures that surgical instruments are sterile and ready for physicians prior to operations and medical procedures. The role involves maintaining and preparing surgical instrument trays for the Operating Room and general Nursing Units, as well as updating surgical count sheets while adhering to proper sterilization, disinfection procedures, and aseptic techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure surgical instruments are sterile and ready for procedures following ANSI/AMMI guidelines.
- Maintain and prepare surgical instrument trays for the Operating Room and Nursing Units as specified.
- Maintain and update surgical count sheets while following proper sterilization and disinfection protocols.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of materials, assembly processes, surgical tray assembly, quality control methods, and sterilization techniques.
- Proficient in meeting quality standards for sterilization services.
- Familiarity with relevant equipment, policies, and sterilization procedures.
- Understanding of machines and tools—including their design, use, repair, and maintenance.
- Ability to determine causes of operating errors and apply effective decision-making to correct them.
- Proficient in conducting tests and inspections to evaluate quality or performance.
- Knowledge of chemical composition, production techniques, danger signs, and disposal methods of substances.
- Strong mathematical calculation skills.
- Basic computer literacy and keyboarding skills.
- Data entry abilities with ten key skills.
- Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Two years of experience in surgical instrument sterilization required.
- Certification: Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Surgical Instrument Specialist (CSIS) required.
- High school graduate or equivalent required.
