Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Project communications: Strategize, create and post online content and collateral related to long-range planning, landmark preservation, plan review, permitting and inspections, and related projects
  • Website management: Produce and post content related to CPD services and major projects, manage and complete content update requests from department work teams, and manage and coordinate work of staff web authors
  • Newsletter/content management: Serve as lead writer and manager of department’s external newsletters, and create and maintain content calendar
  • Internal communications: Coordinate and support internal communications program for department of 280 employees, manage monthly internal newsletter, and support employee engagement events
  • Media relations: Respond to media inquiries, serve as department spokesperson (including on-camera interviews), build and manage relationships with local news outlets, and identify opportunities for proactive media outreach
  • CORA/records: Support communications around management of Colorado Open Records Act requests, including webpage and request form, and manage and complete CORA requests as needed, with a focus on media and high-interest topics
  • Work with the communications team to develop strategies, goals and tactics for outreach to the general public as well as specific audiences, internal and external
  • Develop and implement a variety of promotional, educational and informational communications (may include email newsletters, web content, printed collateral, social media, signage, events, video, etc.)

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or a related field
  • Four (4) years of full performance, professional level experience performing marketing and/or public relations functions including research and analysis, developing public announcements and publications, and developing marketing and/or public relations strategies
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
  • Experience in journalism and/or media relations
  • Familiarity with governmental processes, managing information requests (like CORA/FOIA) and supporting web forms
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Knowledgeable of rules for ADA accessibility for electronic communication

Preferred

  • Spanish language skills are a plus
