Our AI-powered software platform optimizes clinical development by providing powerful insights into trial design and outcomes. As a Senior AI Data Scientist, you will work directly with our Principal AI Data Scientist and CTO to drive our AI strategy—leveraging state-of-the-art models, including LLMs—to optimize clinical trial design and execution. This role requires deep, hands-on expertise in data analysis, model development, and production-level deployment using Python. Occasional travel to our San Diego office is required, and the role is open to candidates residing in California, Nevada, Wisconsin, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, or North Carolina.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Faro AI leadership, clinical teams, and product managers to design new machine learning applications and execute our AI/ML research plan.
- Implement and evaluate proof-of-concept prototypes while working with engineers to develop and productize validated ML models.
- Extract signals from structured and unstructured medical data to generate ML-driven insights for clinical trial design.
- Develop and optimize data pipelines and inference models, ensuring robust monitoring and maintenance in production.
- Foster knowledge sharing across teams and mentor junior data scientists and ML engineers.
- Stay current with the latest developments in machine learning and AI, applying innovative methods to clinical research challenges.
Required Qualifications
- University degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in ML/AI engineering or data science roles, with a proven record of hands-on coding and team leadership.
- Expert-level proficiency in Python with comprehensive end-to-end development experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in coding RAG LLM pipelines, long-form text generation applications, and advanced LLM frameworks (e.g., LlamaIndex, LangChain).
- Experience with production-level model optimization, MLOps practices, and deploying models in Azure environments is preferred.
- Strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and rapidly prototype solutions in a dynamic startup environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to rapidly assimilate state-of-the-art AI research and implement emerging open source technologies.
- Experience working on clinical trial design and applying AI to complex healthcare challenges.
- Proven track record in leading the technical implementation of AI and large language model solutions to drive significant business value.
- Familiarity with common ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, Scikit-Learn, Pandas) and workflow evaluation tools (e.g., Weights & Biases, MLFlow).
- Experience in applying AI to sensitive corporate data within private cloud or on-premise deployments.
- A talent for creating compelling visualizations and non-technical explanations of complex concepts.
